Focus mode
Focus mode hides the sidebar, toolbar, and all editor chrome so only the document content remains on screen. It's designed for distraction-free writing sessions where you want nothing between you and the page.
Entering focus mode
Ctrl + Shift + F
Toggle focus mode on or off from anywhere in the editor.
Focus button
Click the expand/fullscreen icon in the top-right of the editor toolbar.
Escape
Exit focus mode and restore the full editor chrome.
What hides in focus mode
When focus mode is active, the following are hidden:
- The left sidebar (page tree and navigation)
- The top toolbar (block controls, share button, AI button)
- Block drag handles and the block action menu
- The floating add-block
+button between blocks - All panel overlays (layout panel, settings panel)
The document content, cursor, and keyboard shortcuts all remain fully functional. You can continue typing, formatting with keyboard shortcuts, and using slash commands — the / palette still opens normally.
What stays active
- All keyboard shortcuts — formatting, navigation, undo/redo
- Slash command palette (
/) - Inline AI prompt (Space on empty block, or
/ → AI) - Selection toolbar (appears on text selection as normal)
- Real-time collaboration — other users' cursors remain visible
- Autosave — the document continues saving in the background
Focus mode pairs well with the database block's Focus view, which has its own built-in Pomodoro timer. Open a database in Focus view, then enable editor focus mode for a completely distraction-free task session.
Exiting
Press Escape or Ctrl + Shift + F again. The sidebar and toolbar animate back in and all editor chrome is restored exactly as it was before focus mode was entered.
